The Doc Martin cottage is up for sale
Recognise this charming Cornish cottage from somewhere? If you’re a fan of hit show Doc Martin, you might know it as the surgery where Martin Clunes’ character has – often a little cantankerously – tended to a steady stream of patients since the show’s launch in 2004.
After leaving his post as a high-flying surgeon in a London hospital due to developing – somewhat awkwardly for a doctor – a fear of blood, Clunes finds himself as the only GP in the Cornish village of Portwenn.
If you’re up on your Doc Martin trivia, you’ll know that the fictional Portwenn is actually the pretty Cornish fishing village of Port Isaac. This picturesque hamlet is known for its charming cobbled streets, beautiful fishing harbour, and spectacular views over the coast.
Filming of the 10th and final season of Doc Martin took place in the village recently. And as the curtain falls on this much-loved series, it’s time for a new owner to make the most of this charming home. It’s now listed for sale with JB Estates.
The home’s current owner says: “When I acquired Fern Cottage, I quickly realised I was a custodian of a significant national treasure and became its keeper. It has been an incredible pleasure to be embraced by the local community.”
The Grade II-listed former fisherman’s cottage is perched above the harbour. It blends contemporary décor with plenty of restored historical features.
Josephine Ashby, Managing Partner at JB Estates, says: “Fern Cottage has received an exceptional level of interest due to its landmark location. The crew have been actively filming over the past few months, and the combination of Doc Martin fans and interested buyers has meant much focus on this charming Port Isaac property.”
As well as this beautiful cottage’s big-screen credentials, it offers postcard-worthy views overlooking the bay, and across to a host of lovely chocolate-box houses on the opposite side of the cliffs.
The cottage has two bedrooms and a galley kitchen. There’s a cosy living room, and a dining room with a log burner, both of which overlook the harbour. An elevated rear garden is the perfect spot for entertaining on balmy summer evenings, while also offering views over the turquoise-hued water.
The 10th and final season of Doc Martin will air in autumn 2022.
This famous home is for sale for the recently reduced price of £1.15 million, with JB Estates.
