Five fixer-upper homes to inspire your own renovation

Taking on a home renovation project is no mean feat and requires lots of planning, patience and perseverance.

But the satisfaction you’ll feel at the end of the transformation is *usually* worth all the time and money you’ve invested in the refurb.

So we’ve rounded up five fixer-upper homes with bags of potential that are currently listed for sale on Rightmove. We hope they’ll inspire you and get your creative renovation juices flowing.

Rightmove’s property expert Miles Shipside said: “There are thousands of homes up for sale on Rightmove that say they are in need of renovation or modernisation. If you’re renovating a property to sell, I’d advise speaking to some local estate agents about what features buyers are looking for in their ideal property to ensure you end up with a saleable and sought-after property. However, if you’re creating a dream home of your own, make it personal to you and your family – but of course, stay sensible when it comes to budgeting.”

Rawdon

Rawdon Hall Lodge is a wonderfully characterful home, but it hasn’t been on the market for four decades and now is the time to strip it back and upgrade a truly impressive residence.

Tucked away in a leafy spot, with golf and tennis clubs at the end of the lane, this sprawling five-bedroom property measures 4,5000 in sq ft and has great transport links to Leeds and Bradford.

Among the most fascinating features are a stunning oak-panelled library created fifteen years ago by its book-loving owner and a magnificent 31′ long games room. How would you reimagine these rooms?

A new roof was added in 2007 but now it’s time to bring the rest of this charming medieval property back to life. There are also 2.6 acres of lush grounds, to help seal any deal.

What’s not to love about a cosy country house that’s in need of a little TLC to become an idyllic family home once more?

This stunning double-fronted property in north Wales is believed to have been built around 1700, and whilst it needs some work inside, it still retains glorious countryside views.

Prospective buyers will do well to combine some modern touches with original features such as the stone fireplace, beamed ceilings and there may even be scope to renovate the stone outbuilding in the garden.

The potential at this stunning Grade II-listed farmhouse is out of this world; it’s a blank canvass just waiting to be transformed into a superb family home.

The five-bedroom property lies on the edge of the popular village of Exton on the eastern side of the Exe Estuary between the cathedral and university city of Exeter and boasts its own secluded gardens.

The house has recently been re-thatched and re-tiled, so some of the legwork has already been completed, but excitingly, there is a courtyard of buildings to the east that could be redeveloped to create more characterful houses.
