Britain’s most expensive streets revealed
Picture the scene: you’re searching on Rightmove, and decide to remove the price filter… Ever wondered which streets might show up if you delved into an ‘if-money-was-no-object’ property search?
Well, we can now reveal the most expensive streets to buy homes in Britain, and there are some truly showstopping homes in these locations. The most expensive street in Britain is Buckingham Gate in Westminster – a stone’s throw from some of central London’s world-famous landmarks, including Buckingham Palace – where the average property price is over £9.6 million.
Vicarage Gate in Holland Park takes second spot, where the average asking price is just over £6.3 million, with Park Road in St John’s Wood, where the average cost of a home is around £5.8 million, coming in third place.
We’ve seen an increase in the number of searches for the most prestigious London addresses this year, with the number of people looking for homes in Mayfair jumping by a huge 35% compared to the same time in 2023. Home searches in north London’s St John’s Wood are up by 15%, and up by 11% in west London’s Holland Park.
Our property expert, Tim Bannister, says: “London’s status as the hub of luxury property in the UK remains unchallenged, with Buckingham Gate in Westminster commanding the highest average asking price. Although the possibility of buying one of these homes is limited to a very lucky few, there’s clearly a fascination with these prestigious homes as we find they’re often among our most-viewed properties on Rightmove.”
