What can first-time buyers get for £300,000 around the UK?

You may have noticed the housing market is bustling with activity at the moment.

The market remains open, as long as home-movers and estate agents stick to the guidelines in place and make sure home-moving is done safely.

We’ve had a look around different parts of the country to see what’s available for a £300k budget, and we think we’ve found some pretty good options.

Here are some of them…

Yorkshire and the Humber

We think this property in Snaith offers a lot of advantages for its price tag.

Four bedrooms – three of them double – will always come in handy, whether you’re a family with children or a couple who would use the extra space for a home office or gym.

Extra bonuses for this one include a garage (with access through an inside door, which is practical), a good-sized garden, and a fully equipped kitchen.

The property is only a couple years old, so we’d expect it to be in excellent condition.

This new ground floor flat in Taunton caught our interest for a few reasons.

It’s very well presented. It’s spacious for a two-bedroom apartment, and we quite like the open-plan kitchen and living room. The very large glass doors let loads of natural light in, and allow super easy to access the outside balcony and garden, which adds lots of extra space to the flat.

It looks like it’s been made to pretty high specs, and includes underfloor heating and a digital video security system.

There are several benefits that come with a newly built home; they tend to be better insulated, so are typically more energy-efficient.

Did you know that since the first lockdown last year interest in moving to the countryside has gone through the roof?

If you’re one of the many thousands of people thinking of trying out the country life, this four-bedroom stone cottage in Belmont, six miles north of Bolton, standing proudly on an idyllic cobbled street, may be just right for you.

We love the blend of the original, rugged, features of the cottage with the contemporary, quasi chic style interior. It feels homely, and like a place we’d love to be in, even in winter – right next to that lovely wood burner.

Another notable benefit of this quaint little home is the fact it has a sizeable cellar that can be used for storage – something that is often lacking in older cottages.

Greater London

The London area is much more limited when it comes to properties within the £300,000 budget, so when we came across this two-bed maisonette in the village of Sutton, South London, we thought we’d feature it here.

The current owners went out of their way to refurbish is to a high standard, so the interior really does look great. They restored the original parquet flooring they found underneath the carpet, and that turned out to be an attractive feature of the home. It stands out and contrasts nicely against the light walls.

When asked what they most love about the home, the owners said it’s the enormous amount of natural light they get through the large windows on both ends of the living and dining rooms, meaning it never feels dark or dull inside.

Being next to the protected natural green areas of Banstead Common brings a countryside feeling, while at the same time only being a short train ride to central London.

Just outside of Norwich, in the village of Poringland, a half-hour drive from the seaside, we found this brand new semi-detached home which we think is quite a find.

It ticks a lot of boxes. It’s modern, bright, roomy, and the fact it’s a former showroom means it comes with lots of extras, such as a fully equipped kitchen, parquet flooring, and some of the furniture.

Being a newly built property, it’s part of the Help to Buy Scheme, meaning you could buy it with a 5% deposit if you’re a first-time buyer.

It also comes with a 10-year builder’s warranty, which is a definite pro.

Most of all, you can see by the pictures that it’s got everything to be a stylish and welcoming home, and a good first step onto the property ladder.

We thought this detached three-bed in Merthyr Tydfil is rather grand for its price.

The front view of the property is impressive, standing tall behind attractive stone hedges and trees.

It’s just recently been refurbished, so much of the interior looks fresh and new. And there’s loads of room on the ground floor, including two reception rooms, as well as a sizeable garden.

It’s a lovely area if you’re into nature, as just a few minutes away is the stunning Brecon Beacons National Park.
