Spanish property has regained its position as the most popular for those considering buying homes overseas, it has been revealed.

The study relates to searches on the portal over the last month by country and by individual property, with Spanish enquiries found to have risen by 27 per cent as confidence and demand has been boosted by "talk of green shoots".

Italy retained the number three position, while increased interest in Greece saw it move up two places to fourth – the US being the other country making up the top five.

Last month, the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors confirmed that the pace of decline of mortgage activity in Spain is slowing.

Indeed, figures for February showed that approvals rose for the third consecutive month, which may provide a boost for those seeking to buy Spanish property.
