Ryanair’s move is particularly significant as it represents the first time that any European low-cost airline has decided to base aircraft outside of their home continent.

As it stands, Ryanair is currently the third largest carrier, in terms of flights frequency and the number of seats, at Marrakech airport, after EasyJet and Royal Air Maroc. It is thought that the decision to establish a base here could see Ryanair steal the number one spot. However, this will of course depend on the number of new routes it plans to launch.

Needless to say, this move signals good things for the North African country and its tourist resorts. As we all know, with cheaper flights come more tourists and with more tourists comes more capital and an increased interestin owning property there.

Six months ago, Ryanair had a disagreement with Morocco’s state airports company over increased charges. This latest announcement shows hopefully things have cooled between the two parties and the new base heralds increased interest in the North African nation and property there.
