A Florida property located in an over 55s resort proved the perfect choice for one retiring couple, it has been reported.

Gene and Gloria Anderson decided to celebrate their retirement with a relocation project and soon found their ideal home in a Florida property set in a gated golf course community, according to FloridaToday.com.

The couple found their dream Florida property at the Indian River Colony Club, which was originally designed for ex-servicemen such as Mr Anderson, who soon found a few of his neighbours looked a little familiar.

He tells the website: "Some of us served with each other, or we served in the same place at different times."

The complex consists of 863 homes, but is still in the process of completion, by which time it will reportedly provide 1,500 residences for those seeking a relaxing retirement in their very own Florida property.

Recent research by Halifax found that a young-at-heart 49 per cent of people in the 55 to 64 age category would like to take a belated gap year to travel to far-flung destinations such as the US.
