The increasing popularity of Spanish property among second home seekers is "good news" for buyers, it has been claimed.

In the past three months Spanish property enquiries have increased by 150 per cent, with the majority from retirees and second home buyers, according to newly-published figures from Assetz.

Mark Stucklin, head of Spanishpropertyinsight.com, said: "It is good news […] you are better buying today then any time in the last two or three years.

"There is no time like a property bust for buying property – both to get better prices and as an investment."

He added that while it is impossible to make an accurate prediction about how long bargain Spanish property will be available to UK buyers before values rise again, it is likely prices in the country have now bottomed out.

Those seeking a home by the sea will be pleased to hear that prices for Spanish property on the Mediterranean coast have fallen by 10.3 per cent in the last year.
