A move to a Spanish property provided a whole new lease of life for one Scotsman from Perth.

Craig Thomas, 26, moved from his home country to a Spanish property in Madrid four years ago after studying business studies and Spanish at a university in Edinburgh and has never looked back since, according to the Telegraph.

He tells the newspaper: "I will always be Scottish first, but I also feel European and I don’t see a conflict there.

"I travelled to Spain during my university years and realised that I would like to live here. I love the culture, the food, the vibrancy of life in the streets and plazas."

Mr Thomas now works as a teacher in the country and cites Spain’s attitude to bilingual learning as one of its primary appeals, with most children educated in both Spanish and English.

Spanish property enquiries have increased by 150 per cent in the last three months, according to recently-published figures from Assetz.
