In a possible new boost to the Costa del Sol property market, it has been hinted that the championship course at Valderrama may be due to host another tournament next year.

The course recently staged the Volvo Masters European tour event but is losing this to another resort along the Costa del Sol, the Finca Cortesin golf club, next year.

However, the Times reports, moves are underway to ensure another tournament takes place at the course at the end of October next year, facilitated by the Portugal masters being moved forward by a week to enable competitors to compete for two large purses on the Iberian peninsula in a short time.

The paper quoted a Valderrama source as saying: "We have to move fast to bring all this off. Time is pressing."

Such a move could boost Costa del Sol property as tourists who like golf could be able to see two tournaments filled with star players in the region next autumn.

First created in 1974, Valderrama hosted the Ryder Cup in 1997.
