The warmer autumnal weather of the Canary Islands may give it an edge in the tourism stakes, following comments that it is warmer than parts of continental north Africa.

Responding to a query about the warmest place to go for a November break, Sunday Times travel expert Richard Green said Tenerife has average November temperatures of 21C, compared with 20C for Tunisian capital Tunis.

It also has mean sea temperatures of 22C, three degrees more than at Tunis, he added.

Mr Green concluded that the biggest advantage for Tenerife is its night-time temperatures, where the November average at 16C compared with 11C in Tunis.

Such advantages may help attract more tourists to Tenerife as they learn of its qualities, something that may boost Canary Islands property values.

A further possible boost to Canary Islands property came from the travel pages of another national newspaper.

The island of Fuerteventura was listed by the Daily Mirror last weekend as one of the best options for a winter break.
