In news that may boost the Orlando property sector, Amendment Three to Florida’s constitution has been passed.
The amendment means people can add renewable energy or stormproof features to homes without being charged more in property tax.
In order to be passed it required over 60 per cent of the vote, but the margin was less than one per cent, which would normally trigger a recount under electoral law.
However, the Elections Canvassing Commission, under the leadership of state governor Charlie Crist, decided not to proceed with a recount and so the change was passed.
Such a situation means Orlando property and that elsewhere in the state can have its value increased without penalty, meaning investors can do more with properties that they buy and may find a greater supply of greener and more stormproof real estate available to them.
Last week delegates at the National Association of Realtors conference, which was held in Orlando, expressed optimism that the property market will improve under the presidency of Barack Obama, National Association of Estate Agents chief executive Peter Bolton King told the Times.
