Online travel operator Travelocity has dismissed the notion that property in Florida‘s tourism hotspots is also in an oil-affected area at present.
In a recent survey of its users, the Florida Keys was listed among the three most affected destinations by a quarter of respondents.
However, the travel operator is working to dismiss this notion – and adds that the number of tourists visiting property in Florida, Texas and other south-eastern states in the months to come could reveal the true legacy of the leak.
“Though there seems to be progress in stopping the leak in the Gulf, the misperceptions about oil on beaches may take far longer for the travel industry to fix,” the holiday firm says.
Perhaps even more surprisingly, the 2,000 users surveyed were American, placing them closer to the incident and its media coverage than UK residents.
The latest news from BP reveals that the MC252 well was effectively sealed on July 15th, with no oil now being released into the Gulf of Mexico.
