The third quarter saw an annual increase in visits to property in FloridaThe Sunshine State continues to grow in popularity, with the news that more people headed to property in Florida in the third quarter of 2010 than the same period a year earlier.

Figures from Visit Florida show a 0.6 per cent increase over 2009 – a modest rise, but one which was achieved during turbulent economies and following the Deepwater Horizon oil rig spill.

Chris Thompson, president and chief executive officer of the tourism organisation, says: "I am very encouraged by the continued strength of our overseas and Canadian markets."

In all, 18.9 million people headed to property in Florida during the third quarter of 2010.

However, if trends in the domestic tourism market are discounted, the state's appeal internationally appears much stronger.

Canadian visits rose by 23 per cent year-on-year, while overseas travellers increased in number by 17.4 per cent, leading to a 0.8 per cent expansion in employment in Florida's tourism industries.
