A new survey has found that better weather is the most commonly mentioned reason for Britons to move into overseas property.

The study by Alliance & Leicester found that 57 per cent considered this one of the main reasons for moving abroad.

Quality of life came narrowly second on 56 per cent.

Other considerations included better living standards, lower crime rates, superior food and a chance to mix with local people.

Those investing in overseas property may find sunny destination such as Spain, Portugal, Italy, the French Riviera, California and Florida all fit the bill when it comes to weather.

A survey earlier this year by Cater Allen Private Bank found that over three million Britons are planning to buy an overseas property in the next two years.

This is in addition to the 2.3 million who have already done so, the survey noted.
