Investors in Canary Islands property who like their motorsport will be in for a treat in the spring, when the annual Rally de Canarias takes place on Gran Canaria.

Held in April or May, the event dates back to the 1970s and involves rally cars hurtling around the varied terrain of the island in eight different stages, covering over 100 miles along the way.

The winners get to take home the Corte Ingles Rally Trophy after the gruelling race, much of which passes through tricky mountain terrain.

Property owners and tourists who may be renting Canary Islands property will be able to enjoy the event for free.

Away from the sound of revving engines and the sight of frantic drivers, other exciting events are taking place on the islands in the months ahead.

These include a concert by rock star Rod Stewart at the Canarias Live Sun Festival 2009 on Tenerife in May.
