Enjoy local wine at a property in FranceToday, the majority of bottles of malbec come from Argentina but the wine actually originates from the south-west of France, a location where it is making a comeback, it has been reported.

According to Susie Grimshaw, in an article for the Guardian, the black wine is made from grapes grown in Cahors, which could make this the ideal place to invest in a property in France.

She explains that it was drunk at the wedding of Henry II, while two popes have chosen it as communion wine. Francois I of France had his own vineyard built for him by winemakers from Cahors.

The drink is made using the malbec grape, which is extremely dark in colour, leading to descriptions of the wine as being black.

But it is not just the wine that makes Cahors the ideal place for culinary-minded Britons to invest – it also boasts a host of local gourmet delights, such as truffles, foie gras and goat’s cheese.

And when they have finished dining, Britons can visit sites such as the Valentre Bridge and the vineyards at a leisurely pace, knowing that they have their own base to return to at the end of the day.
