The strong performance of the pound could provide Florida property owners with a welcome boost in 2010, it has been claimed.

American holidays, such as those to Florida property, are set to make a comeback next year, according to the Association of Independent Tour Operators (Aito), which is predicting visitor numbers will rise in summer 2010.

Kate Kenward, executive director at Aito, said: "We have seen this year that holidays are not something that Britons want to cut back on and […] people are more optimistic about their holiday plans for 2010.

"This is likely to see expenditure rise […] [and] the strengthening of the pound against the dollar could see the US make a comeback."

Ms Kenward added that eurozone holidays, such as those to Spanish property, are expected to prove popular among British travellers next year.

The Thomson and First Choice Trends Report 2009 found that 80 per cent of UK residents are planning a trip abroad in 2010.
