People planning to visit Florida property from the UK this year have been advised to make sure they don’t get caught out by hidden money exchange charges.
The handy hints come courtesy of consumer organisation Which? Money and could prove useful to Florida property owners heading off to their second home for the colder months, or those simply taking a vacation to the sunshine state.
Dan Moore, senior researcher at Which? Money, said: "The thing to watch out for is a delivery fee. The Post Office will charge up to £5 for you to buy your currency if it is delivered to your home.
"[Also], get cash out of a hole in a wall in the UK, walk across the road to any of the exchange bureaus and pay in cash. That will save you the 2.5 per cent charge on your card."
Recent research by FairFX.com has shown that only four per cent of UK tourists understand the additional charges that can come with "commission free" money exchanges.
Florida property owners would therefore be well-advised to check the charges before depleting their dollars unnecessarily.
