Demand for French property could increase among Britons as a growing number of holidaymakers are looking to spend their time enjoying so-called gastro holidays.

According to research from holiday reviews website TripAdvisor, 46 per cent of Britons are keen to try a wide selection of foods when on holiday.

With France renowned for its high quality of food and a vast range of delicacies for people to choose from, there could be a rise in the number of people looking to purchase French property in the future to provide them with a convenient holiday home.

Jonathan Cudworth, director of product management at Expedia, added that demand for gastro holidays has grown in recent times.

"We have seen a steady increase in demand for ‘gastro holidays,’ with people wanting more from their getaways by booking experiences such as wine tours and cookery courses," he said.

TripAdvisor surveyed 693 British travellers and found just two per cent stick to familiar dishes when dining abroad, while 86 per cent avoid fast food when on holiday, preferring to try local cuisine instead.
