An increasing number of Britons are heading to Australia, a new poll has found.

Overseas property investors may be interested to learn that according to the Pickfords’ Move Monitor, there was a 31 per cent increase in the number of people emigrating to Australia in 2008.

The poll revealed that Queensland is the most popular relocation destination for Brits for the second year running, something overseas property investors may want to investigate further.

Adelaide and Melbourne also saw a rise in popularity last year, the survey showed.

Pickfords’ spokesperson Graham Hardwick stated: "Queensland is our most popular destination in Australia – I am sure the quality of life, sunnier climate and diverse job opportunities play a part in the relocation decision!"

It was recently suggested by Halifax that the weakening pound and the strength of the euro may lead Brits to consider alternative holiday destinations this year.

Australia may well benefit from increased tourism, as well as the Seychelles, Brazil, Iceland, Poland, New Zealand, Norway and Sweden, the bank said.
