Eco-conscious travellers staying in property in Florida might want to consider an unlikely mode of transport in order to get around with a minimal carbon footprint.
The Florida Keys & Key West's tourism office explains that local husband-and-wife team Bill and Mary Burnham operate kayaking tours.
From January to March 2011, these give newcomers to the sport – and to property in Florida – the chance to get their first taste both of paddling and of the sights of the Sunshine State.
Their routes could inspire beginners and professionals alike to take to the waterways of the region and paddle around for themselves.
For instance, experienced kayakers can explore 200,000 acres of water stretching between Key West and Big Pine Key.
Meanwhile, those just starting out or with families accompanying them can enjoy shorter jaunts.
It is not only the inland waters that provide sport in Florida; the state is also the only place in the continental US where a living barrier reef can be found.
