The number of people heading to property in Florida from overseas saw double-digit growth in the second quarter of 2010, figures from Visit Florida show.
Compared with the same period of the previous year, the Sunshine State's promotion organisation reports 11.9 per cent more visitors to property in Florida.
Domestic visitations also increased in number, by a more modest rate of 2.4 per cent.
The figures follow an intensive marketing campaign embarked upon by the organisation, which has used Twitter updates and live webcam images from around the state to promote Florida in recent weeks.
Its efforts intensified in response to the expected negative impact on tourism that the Deepwater Horizon oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico might have.
Tracy Louthain, spokeswoman for the Beaches of South Walton on the Gulf Coast of Florida, told the Associated Press this week that summer occupancy in the region has dropped by almost a third since the spill.
But Ed Fouche, chair of the board of directors at Visit Florida, adds that marketing efforts following the spill will focus on letting people know that the beaches in the state are clean and open for business.
