Official tourism figures from the country's National Statistics Institute show the rising popularity of property in Bulgaria for overseas visitors.
In August 2010, 1.6 million overseas travellers spent time in property in Bulgaria, the report states.
This represents a year-on-year rise of 11 per cent, compared with the corresponding figures for August of the previous year.
Meanwhile, it seems residents of the country are also choosing to spend more time there.
Over the same 12-month period, the number of Bulgarian residents heading over the border to spend time in other countries dropped by 30.6 per cent.
This took it to just 380,000 people leaving Bulgaria for a vacation or business trip during August.
Previous figures from the National Statistics Institute showed that, in the second quarter of 2010, more than a million Bulgarian residents took a holiday either domestically or abroad.
The average domestic trip cost just 157.7 Bulgarian levs (£69) – perhaps helped by staying with relatives elsewhere in the country.
