There is a large difference between the north and the south of the UK in terms of the number of people jetting off for a spot of winter sun, new figures have revealed.

According to research from the Co-operative Travel, more people are planning on flying from northern England airports and airports in Scotland than from terminals in the south.

Bookings at the Robin Hood airport in Doncaster are up by 46 per cent, with bookings at fellow northern airport Liverpool John Lennon up by 41 per cent.

Many people choose to jet off to sunnier climes as the temperatures drop in the UK, which could see many Brits taking a break in a French property or a property in Spain.

Both counties have always been traditionally popular with British holidaymakers as they are easy to reach from the UK by air.

However, the World Travel Market recently noted that cruising is becoming the fastest growing sector in the travel industry, which could interest those who fancy getting to their property in France by sea.
