A growing trend for the over-50s to take gap years could see many head to property in Florida over the coming 12 months.
Tom Griffiths, founder of backpackers' community gapyear.com, explains that older Britons are often relatively cash-rich.
As a result, it is easier for them to reclaim the deposit on their flat or to sell their car and head off on a long-haul adventure.
Property in Florida seems a likely destination for some, as Mr Griffiths lists the US alongside Australia and New Zealand as popular regions for people to take such trips.
"We are definitely seeing growth and in the older market, particularly the baby boomers, they are the guys who took the first gap years," he says.
Having money in the bank could be helping the older generation to enjoy their holiday more fully, as Mr Griffiths also suggests that few appear to be taking part-time jobs while overseas, instead opting for a complete break from the world of work.
