A new survey of internet searches for property has found that among English-speakers around the world Spain is the most popular destination.
The study of 1.4 million searches made in September 2008 by real estate firm Global Edge found that the country was the leading location, with twice as many searches as second-placed France.
According to managing director Ashley Rigg this finding debunked the notion that Spain and France are about equal in popularity as the two leading locations.
He remarked: "These results suggest Spanish property is considerably more popular than previously thought".
Tenerife, Majorca and the Costa Blanca were identified as the most popular areas for Spanish property.
Mallorca’s capital city Palma was recently featured by the Times as a potential up-and-coming property destination, with the paper advising that it offers an authentically Spanish atmosphere.
UK property investor in the city Julian Harris described Palma as "incredibly attractive".
