Travellers staying in property in Florida this month might want to make some time for a local festival dedicated to a particular type of seafood.
The Isle of Eight Flags Shrimp Festival will take place at Fernandina Beach on Amelia Island between April 29th and May 1st, offering a host of tastings and special events throughout the weekend.
Highlights of the festivities include the opening pirate parade, a live marine sea circus and aquarium display tours on Georgia Bulldog research vessel, a pageant, fireworks displays and arts and crafts shows.
A food court and various stalls will offer a variety of shrimp-related delicacies and dishes, along with other seafood and drinks.
The festival will conclude with a parade of decorated shrimp boats, with the vessel deemed to be the best-looking receiving a prize.
Other attractions on Amelia Island for those staying in a property in Florida include the Amelia Island State Park, which is one of the few parts of the state where horseback riding is allowed on the beach.
The destination is also home to a number of golf courses and sites of historical interest, such as the Palace Saloon – the oldest in the US – and the supposedly haunted Florida House Inn.
