Description
Surrounded on three sides by the Suffolk Wildlife Trust providing a protective cloak for your views and its wild inhabitants, this is a home where the world literally stops the moment you arrive. Resting on the cusp of a five-acre plot (sts) this charming Railway cottage has been completely re-imaged for modern life, where careful thought and consideration to the layout has invited those enviable views into the cottage from almost every angle.
The kitchen is clearly the heart of this home, where space for the whole family whilst opening up those beautiful views were top of the agenda when it came to the design specification. Complete with a sociable island, there is room to spread out in the kitchen with room for a generous dining table and sofas so your day to day living here is effortlessly comfortable whilst the wide array of windows and doors out to the large dining terrace, merge inside to outside seamlessly. Through the double doors, the sitting room is equally a good size room, where the log-burning stove sets the scene for a more intimate and cosy evening in. For a degree of versatility within the footprint, an additional reception room can be found next to the ground floor shower room, ideal as a work from home study or a ground floor fourth bedroom should you need it.
Upstairs, three good size bedrooms all lead from the landing in addition to the recently re-modelled bath and shower suite. An aspect of un-tapped potential is the huge attic space which is access through the cupboard in bedroom two which subject to the relevant permissions could be converted to an impressive Principal suite.
Outside...
Arriving to the Cottage, you cross the railway track via manual gates either by car or by foot. The trains pass by twice an hour throughout the day only, ordinarily a two carriage Diesel Electric Hybrid train running on a continuous track, so in other words very quiet with no 'clickity clack'!! The grounds stretch out to the Southerly aspect, stretching across the lake where a wonderous woodland footpath lies in wait for you to explore. Majestic marsh views lay as far as the eye can see, where the widest variety of nature can be witnessed, from the paired Swans and Geese to the comedic Pheasants and other huge variations of small birds, hours can be spent just hypnotised by the sheer natural beauty of what you may have the privilege to call home. Crossing Cottage is truly a one in a million home.
What The Owners Say...
I can remember the first day we saw the house. We pulled up at the railway line and looked at each other thinking "why are we here?"
It wasn't long before we realised.
The world changes when you cross through the gates.
The house itself was very dark in those days before we modernised and extended it so we had to look beyond that, which was easy because what you could see outside the windows was simply beautiful looking peaceful and just nature at its best.
When we went outside and walked through to the wood we were already sold. So quiet. The birds, wildlife and the sheer tranquility of it was truly a surprise. There was the sight of some sails which looked like they were going through a field but were actually on the river Waveney, just a short walk down the lane.
In the 16 years we have been here it has only got better, new railway gates changed from the old white ones to much lighter farm gate type and now with the Suffolk Wildlife Trust becoming our neighbour on 3 sides the future of the marshes is secure.
When here you feel like you are in a different place and away from the busy world, but in reality, you are only a few minutes away. We always look at the place like Narnia and the railway gates as the wardrobe, it is truly a different world, that is exactly how we felt on the first day we saw it all those years ago and it has never changed.
