Description
Originally a 2 bedroom property, the current owners created an extra bedroom upstairs by taking one of the large double bedrooms and converting it into 2 smaller but extremely adequate double bedrooms.
They then put a ground floor extension onto the property to create an extra room. This room could be used as a study / office, a dining / reading room or indeed any other type of room the new owners wanted including an additional bedroom / guest room.
This current configuration has made this property an absolute cracker! Versatility is definitely the name of the game with this lovely family home.
However, its versatility is only one facet of this family home.
The property benefits from what has become the number one requirement for living, dining & cooking space, and that is open plan. However, this is open plan with a slight difference. Most open plan is either square / rectangular, 'L' shaped or 'U' shaped. This beauty though is 'O' shaped with the stairs forming the centre piece. It makes for a variation on the normal open plan living and it works exceptionally well.
There is a good size entrance porch which not only has storage for coats hats and shoes, it enables the cold air to be kept out of the house in the winter months which helps keep down the heating bills!
The kitchen area is fully fitted with a lovely tiled floor. It consists of all the usual white goods. There are large double doors that open into the good size rear garden. The current owners have the dining area in between the kitchen and lounge area although this could be reconfigured if required. The lounge area is large and has a large window overlooking the front of the property. The lounge and dining areas has laminate flooring.
The extension to this property is accessed via the lounge area. It can of course be used for absolutely anything!
The rear garden of this family home is a good size , in good condition and extremely low maintenance. There is a lovely patio area that is ideal for BBQ's / alfresco dining. There is also a covered patio area right outside the double doors which is extremely handy when the British weather lets you down. There are a couple of raised flower beds that could be cultivated into whatever you wanted be it flowers or vegetables.
At the bottom of the garden is a large outbuilding that has electric and this could be a large home office or a workshop etc.
Upstairs we have the 2/3 bedrooms as well as the very nice family bathroom.
What the current owners have done here is to take the largest double and make it into 2 smaller doubles. As you can see from the floorplan, to access bedroom 3 to have to go into bedroom 2. Whilst this may be not ideal for some, it works well for many families. It also could be used as a bedroom with a walk in wardrobe or its own living room (especially ideal for a teenager!)
The largest bedroom has large fitted wardrobes which is a lovely bonus.
The family bathroom has a bathtub, electric shower, WC & wash basin that has integrated furniture. The bathroom is tastefully tiled on walls and floor.
There is also storage at the top of the staircase which is a clever use of space.
This really is a lovely family home. However, location is paramount when it comes to choosing a home and geographically this property is close to all important local amenities:
Nursery school (Ofsted rated good) 0.3 miles
Primary school (Ofsted rated good) 0.4 miles

So its a great house & is situated close to everything important. But what is living in Harlow like?
Living in Abbotsweld, a residential enclave within the vibrant town of Harlow, Essex, offers a harmonious blend of community spirit, modern amenities, and abundant outdoor activities-making it an ideal locale for families.
Living in Harlow: A Family-Friendly Town with a Green Heart
Located in the west of Essex, Harlow is a vibrant and evolving town that offers a welcoming environment for families, professionals, and retirees alike. Known for its commitment to green living and community-centred development, Harlow blends the convenience of modern amenities with the charm of countryside living-making it a particularly appealing place for those raising a family.
A Town Built for Living
Harlow was one of the UK's first post-war New Towns, purposefully designed with the intention of creating self-contained communities. Today, that vision continues to thrive. The town is well connected by road (via the M11) and rail (Harlow Town and Harlow Mill stations provide direct services to London Liverpool Street), making it an ideal base for commuters.
The town is home to a wide range of amenities including several shopping centres such as The Harvey Centre and Water Gardens, where residents can find everything from major retailers and supermarkets to independent cafés and restaurants. For day-to-day essentials, there are also plenty of local shops, banks, pharmacies, and health services.
Harlow's healthcare infrastructure is strong, with Princess Alexandra Hospital providing comprehensive NHS services, and numerous GP surgeries and dental clinics spread across the town.
Education and Community
Harlow is particularly appealing to families due to the range of schools and nurseries available. The town boasts a variety of highly regarded primary and secondary schools, including Burnt Mill Academy, Passmores Academy, and St Mark's West Essex Catholic School. For further education, Harlow College has a strong reputation for vocational and academic courses and also hosts an advanced manufacturing and engineering centre.
The community spirit in Harlow is lively and supportive, with a mix of long-standing residents and newcomers. Regular events, youth clubs, and cultural programmes keep families engaged and connected throughout the year.
Outdoor Living and Green Spaces
Perhaps one of Harlow's most defining features is its abundance of outdoor spaces and commitment to greenery. It is one of the few towns in the UK that truly integrates parks and natural landscapes into the urban environment.
Harlow Town Park
At the heart of this is Harlow Town Park-a 164-acre expanse that includes multiple play areas, landscaped gardens, a skate park, café, and the popular Pets' Corner, a small urban farm home to animals such as goats, alpacas, and rabbits. It's a firm favourite with families, providing hours of free entertainment in a safe and welcoming setting.
River Stort and Nature Reserves
For those who enjoy walking, cycling, or paddleboarding, the River Stort Navigation and the nearby Parndon Wood Nature Reserve offer tranquil escapes filled with wildlife, woodlands, and trails. The countryside is always close by in Harlow, giving families easy access to the benefits of the outdoors.
Sporting Facilities
Harlow is also well equipped for sports enthusiasts. The town has a number of leisure centres, football pitches, tennis clubs, and swimming pools. Harlow Leisurezone is a major facility that includes a large gym, indoor pool, athletics track, and regular fitness classes. The town also supports grassroots sports through various clubs and training opportunities for young people.
Arts and Culture
Harlow is home to a thriving arts scene. The Gibberd Gallery, located in the Civic Centre, and the Harlow Playhouse regularly host exhibitions, theatre performances, and workshops suitable for all ages. For families with artistic interests, there are numerous community-led initiatives and art groups to get involved with.
Public art is another unique feature-Harlow boasts one of the largest collections of public sculptures in the UK, thanks in part to the town's designer, Sir Frederick Gibberd, who envisioned art as a key part of community life.
Final Thoughts
Living in Harlow offers a fulfilling, balanced lifestyle. For families in particular, the town provides the perfect mix of urban convenience, community connection, and natural beauty. Whether you're strolling through Harlow Town Park, watching a local theatre performance, or cycling along the River Stort, Harlow makes it easy to enjoy the outdoors and build a family-friendly life. With strong transport links, a growing economy, and plenty of things to do, Harlow continues to be a place people are proud to call home.
