Description

In less than a minute, the owners of the house on Cranberry Close can be in the leafy, green surroundings of Snail Park. In 20 minutes, they can be walking along the shores of picturesque Caldecotte Lake. The exceptional location of their Milton Keynes home was one of its most appealing factors when they bought it four years ago, one of them explains. “The location was ideal – it felt very rural and safe and yet was also convenient for the city centre and the school. It also had good transport links, with buses to the train station and central Milton Keynes stopping close to the school,” she recalls. “We liked the fact it was within walking distance of Caldecotte Lake and that there were lots of other beautiful places to take the dogs to close by.”

INSIDE-OUTSIDE LIVING

The detached property, which offered three storeys of accommodation, also held great potential to become their ideal home: “We have carried out renovation work in the time we have been here,” she explains. This has seen the property extended to a single storey at the side, allowing the creation of a new entrance. The kitchen has also been completely renovated and new bi-folding doors have been installed. “Porcelain tiles were laid and we had a light-up media unit fitted in the sitting room. More recently, new carpets have been laid throughout the home.” The attractive house has also been redecorated, from top to bottom, in warm tones. “We wanted the colour scheme to complement the garden and enhance that feeling of inside-outside living,” she adds.

STYLISH KITCHEN

Today the ground-floor accommodation is accessed via the generous reception hall. This has built-in storage and leads to a useful downstairs cloakroom. There is an easy flow through into the kitchen dining room, which spans the entire depth of the house. At one end, the bi-folding doors open onto the garden. Here there is ample space for a dining table and chairs or for comfortable seating, making the space ideal for both entertaining and family living. At the other end, the stylish kitchen area features quartz work surfaces, a built-in pantry and an external door. “The open-plan kitchen dinner now works very well, especially with the bi-folding doors that look out into the garden,” the owner observes.

HOSTING FRIENDS

The sitting room is also a great space for relaxation and socialising. This is a good-sized room, with ample room for sofas, armchairs and dining furniture if required. With windows to two sides, it is a lovely, light room for relaxing, reading or playing family games. The new media unit is perfect for anyone who enjoys watching movies or gathering with friends for sports events. “We also have a gazebo at the back of the garden, which has been great for hosting,” she says. “It is lovely for summer barbecues.”

FLEXIBLE LAYOUT

Stairs from the kitchen dining room lead up to the first floor of the Cranberry Close house. Here, the master bedroom is a particularly good size, with built-in storage and windows to two of its three sides. It also has an en suite. The family bathroom is also at this level, together with two smaller bedrooms, one of which is double aspect. If not required for children, these bedrooms could make excellent hobby spaces or studies and could be perfect for anyone wishing to be able to work from home. Stairs from this level lead up to another landing on the second floor. Here there is an additional family bathroom, plus two good-sized, light-filled double bedrooms, one with three windows and the other with a skylight and window. This arrangement could suit a family with teenagers or adult children seeking to be slightly removed from the hub of the house.

RURAL FEEL

The property also boasts a double garage, which could provide workshop – as well as parking – space if required. The current owner agrees she will miss the style, comfort and location of the house when she moves. “Most of all I will think back on all the long walks I have had with the dogs either at Caldecotte Lake or exploring the woods at Woburn,” she says. “It has been great being close enough to the city centre while also being able to walk to places like this with that rural feel.”

SETTING THE SCENE

Set on a quiet cul-de-sac, the house on Cranberry Close includes bi-folding doors that open onto its enclosed rear garden. With a seamless flow between inside and out, it also features a gazebo that is ideal for summer entertaining. There is also a double garage.
