So much so that competition for small shops became a deciding factor in Maria's retirement - not a lack of customers.
To sum up the real situation on the ground in Bulgaria - the modern new shop just down the street sells vapes, whereas Maria's old shop sold cigarettes. The times they are a changing in Bulgaria, leaving many with the choice of keeping up with the times or... retiring!
This was never a shop you'd find on Google Maps, nor did it ever want to be. There was never even a sign. The mindnumbing vloggers roaming the land, UK TV shows and journos would likely pass through Radovets and proclaim "there are no shops!"
