Description
** VIEWING STRICTLY BY APPOINTMENT ONLY **
Gezina Elizabeth is a charming Dutch barge originally constructed in Holland in 1915 and offers a completely unique lifestyle and opportunity to own an individual and distinctive home.
Having spent her early life as a working barge, she was retired from active life and sailed to Guernsey; subsequently an extensive refit was carried out and the tasteful yet exquisite transformation into its current configuration took place.
The entrance to this stunning barge is to be found at the after end of the vessel and is covered with a canvas bimini which can be retracted to create an open-deck environment and an ideal space to store outdoor shoes and wellies after a crisp winter’s walk.
A set of beautiful, ornate double doors open into the galley and wheelhouse. The galley is exquisitely finished with hand-constructed wood units, solid oak work surfaces, a butler sink and a range cooker with two ovens (one electric, one gas) and a gas stove with 5 burners.
Large portholes line both sides of the galley flooding the area with welcoming light and are fitted with bespoke shutters for meals with friends on a cosy autumn evening.
The wheelhouse contains the helm and therefore all the equipment necessary to move the boat should the new owner wish to. The vessel is fitted with a Ford 6-cylinder diesel engine and can achieve a speed of up to 6 knots.
A small set of steps leads below to the saloon which is a large, extraordinarily well finished and comfortable space, ideal for relaxing and enjoying the warmth of the log burner and the pristine tranquillity of quiet evenings on board.
Accommodation is plentiful aboard the Gezina Elizabeth fitted as it is with a Master Cabin and two additional cabins. The main master cabin is big enough for a king size bed and has the potential for many and varied storage solutions. There is also a roof hatch which pervades the space with natural light. Cabins two and three are of a comfortable size, having as they do enough space for a double bed and additional furniture in each.
As well as the three cabins, the bathroom (head) can also be found off the passageway which links them to the saloon. This is fully equipped space with bath, wash basin and w/c and cupboard storage. The cupboard also includes the laundry, with plumbing for a washing machine.
Up top, there is a substantial sun deck which can be accessed via a walkway along her gunwales; just the thing to enjoy summer evenings and barbecues.
In it's current moored position at Standard Quay, Faversham’s bustling, historic town centre is just a nine minute walk from the Gezina Elizabeth. Faversham mainline railway station is a fourteen minute walk, with services to London St Pancras, Victoria, Cannon Street and Kings Cross stations taking just over an hour. Junction 6 of the M2 motorway is a seven minute drive away.
Faversham town centre is full of independent retailers, coffee shops, pubs and restaurants, as well as a popular market held three days a week. Held under the iconic Guildhall; Faversham Market is believed to be the oldest in Kent, having been recorded in the Domesday book in 1086.
Faversham is steeped in history with its oldest building dating back to 1234. A lot of Faversham’s character comes from its charming architecture with buildings surviving from the medieval, Georgian and Victorian periods, through to the present day. The town is also home to Britain’s oldest brewery – Shepherd Neame.
The town contains several both ‘Good’ and ‘Outstanding’ Ofsted rated schools at both primary and secondary level.
