Arbroath abbey located near the centre of the town is a popular chose for visitors. The town's most famous product is the Arbroath Smokie, which was first created in the village of Auchmithie. It is line-caught haddock, smoke-cured over smouldering oak chips, and still made here in several family-run smokehouses tucked in around the harbour.

There are several recreational and sports facilities within the town which include Arbroath sports centre and a good option of schooling at both primary and secondary level.
