The Yard of Ale Brewery has been brewing on-site since 2008. In that time, it has provided beer to an increasing number of pubs, clubs, beer festivals and specialist suppliers. Initially set up as a cask ale supplier, Yard of Ale now supplies its Award-Winning ales in various formats; from traditional 9g cask to one-way carbonated kegs to Mini-Kegs, Bag-in-Box and Bottles.

The Surtees Arms is located in the County Durham town of Ferryhill.
The former mining community, which is located seven miles away from Durham City is close to the towns of Bishop Auckland, Newton Aycliffe, Sedgefield, Shildon and Spennymoor.
The pub is decorated in a traditional style and well maintained throughout. Numerous trading areas comprise of a welcoming main bar area with bar servery, exposed beams, large sky tv screen, dart board, raised stage area and seating/standing for c.40.
A separate lounge with bar servery, log fire, pool table and seating/standing for c.20 customers. A well lit dining area with seating for c.30 and a 60 seater function room on the first floor with separate bar and customer WCs.

Ales are sold into selected pubs in the North East and have featured as a guest ale at The House of Common's Strangers Bar.
Currently the brewery is producing two brews a week of nine kegs per brew. Bottling and canning of additional quantities takes place seasonally depending on events etc.
The "Yarden" at the rear of the pub is used throughout summer. With seating for c.15-20 people the area is also used for events such as beer festivals and BBQs.
