Description

Architecture & Interior
Amongst the urban sprawl of Bermondsey is this astonishing raised ground floor lateral apartment.

Significant natural light floods the space owing to windows on three sides, with light beaming off the beautiful walnut floorboards.
Laterally the apartment spreads out to in excess of 2100 sq. ft and retains all the features that represent an industrial loft including exposed brickwork, steel beams and high ceilings.

The vast majority of the footprint has been left for open-plan living. Separation between the internal space, bedrooms and bathrooms is curated by intelligently curved frosted glass internal walls, a clever feature ensuring separation whilst also maintaining bright interiors.

The Bulthaup kitchen is set around a large central island, relaxed in its environment, minimalist but practical. All necessary appliances have been catered for.

Two generous bedrooms are on either side of the space, with the principal bedroom connecting to an impressive bathroom finished in stainless steel and cobalt tiling.

There is enough flexibility within the principal bedroom to construct a dressing area or entirely rearrange it to suit individual needs. An additional ensuite wet room could also be introduced in the storage cupboard as there is pre-existing hot & cold-water supply.

Street side windows ensure complete privacy so no-one can look in. There are two entrances to the apartment leading into the communal areas of the development.

Outside
Famous for its white façade and lit-up red lettered logo, The Alaska Buildings are now well regarded as one the best factory conversions in London. Set back from Grange Road behind secure gates, these former factory buildings ceased production in  the 1960s and then were thoughtfully converted back to loft apartments in the late 1990s.

The communal outdoor space that is shared by the residents of the Alaska Buildings is well-maintained and thoughtfully planted. A freshwater ornamental pond provides a centre point that is bordered by mature shrubs and grasses.

In addition, as part of the service charges (including all hot water and heating) for the building is a 24hr concierge, secure compound access and an underground parking space.

In The Neighbourhood
Alaska Buildings is situated in the heart of old school SE1, renowned for warehouses as part of its industrial past. The apartment overlooks Bermondsey Spa Gardens, a beautiful park with open space, sports pitch and a lovely café. There are world renowned food markets minutes away at Borough Market, Maltby Street and Spa Gardens, all with a huge variety of fresh produce and artisanal street food.

The delights of Shad Thames, Bermondsey Street and London Bridge are all within a 15-minute walk. Establishments such as Le Pont de la Tour & Butlers Wharf Chop House, are only a short walk away and some of the best pubs in Southwark are all within a 5-minute walk.

The Bankside Low line, a huge investment and refurbishment project of all the railway arches leaving London Bridge, has created a plethora of microbreweries, restaurants, coffee shops and bars, not far away.

Transport & Connections
Closest transport is Bermondsey underground station, around a 9 minutes walk and connects with the Jubilee line taking you Westminster in the west and Canary Wharf in the east. London Bridge station is a 15-minute walk with major rail connections to southeast London & Kent, whilst also linking up with the Northern and Jubilee underground lines. Tower Hill station is also only a 15-minute walk over the river, providing access to the Circle and District tube lines.

There are also superb bus links along Grange Road into the City, West End and east to Shoreditch and beyond.
