Description
150 metres from Magdalene College Porter's Lodge - one first floor double room, the Compass Platform (£989), including all the bills, in a circa 1775 grade II listed semi-detached house from 25-Jul-26.
Improvements since June 2023
• In 2023 the climbing roses survived the aphid ridden winter and spring and guide wires were therefore extended at right angles from the yard rear wall to the back wall of the house with the aim of turning the yard, in due course, into an arbour for roses and to that end tenants must agree not to park bicycles in the yard. As you can see, in June 2024, the roses were triumphant and they are more so now.
• In March and May 2024 the rope banisters were replaced with varnished wooden hand rails (much better!) and an imitation (£1200) Chippendale desk was added to the bridge.
• In July 2024 a new mattress (190cm long, 120 cm wide, 20cm deep) was added to the compass platform.
• In August 2024 a new mattress (190cm long, 120 cm wide, 20 cm deep), with a new head boarded bed, for those precise dimensions was added to the bridge
• In March 2025 a new bench and coffee table (£330) were added to the yard and in May 2025 the bathroom tiling was improved.
• In Aug 2025 a new (head-boarded) double bed, 190 cm long, 120 cm wide, (for 20 cm deep mattress) replaced the old bed in the compass platform along with an imitation Chippendale writing desk (£1290), in this case in old Yew wood. A new mattress 190 cm long, 120 cm wide, (20 cm deep) replaced the old in the Ready Room on 18-Aug-2025. Minor repairs were made to the upper spiral staircase and wardrobes in July 2025.
• On 01-Sep-25 part of the Kitchen, part of the Bridge, the main stairwell and the Compass Platform were re-painted.
• The Ready Room's carpet was replaced with the floorboards underneath that were lacquered in December 2025.
• In the compass platform a new Skylight with storm blind replaced the old in December 2025.
• The bathroom was renovated (again but better this time) in January 2026.
• In January 2026 a relatively long to deep ratio £1290 imitation Chippendale writing desk in old Yew wood was added to the Ready Room.

The property is shared between four tenants when all rooms are taken. The three already taken are so by, a twenty something warm hearted Polish born lady who took the Captain's Cabin on the second floor in 2025, the twenty something University of Cambridge postgraduate lady student who has taken the Ready Room on the first floor and the twenty something University of Cambridge junior professor barrister of AI in the law.
The room is offered only to one person (as the house is small and so this is to avoid overcrowding).
The compass platform photograph (number eight) is from 2021. We will take more when the existing tenant moves out 25 July.
