Description
Whitelands was built by the present owners' family in 1952 and its light, well-proportioned rooms take full advantage of the fabulous views over the surrounding farmland and South Downs countryside. The accommodation is equally suited to someone looking to downsize from a larger property or for rural family living including a large sitting room of over 24 ft in length, generous L-shaped kitchen/breakfast room with separate utility room and up to four bedrooms with one bathroom.
The property has been well-maintained with the addition in 2024 of a new heating system powered by air-source heat pump. In addition to this photovoltaic panels have been installed providing a supplement to the existing mains supply. Opportunities to adapt or rebuild a property in such a special location rarely come to the market, particularly in this popular part of the South Downs.
The surrounding gardens amount to approximately half an acre with stunning views to the east and south over surrounding countryside. Double gates open onto a generous stone shingled driveway providing plenty of casual parking and there is an attached garage to the western side of the building. There is also a secondary vehicle access to the east of the property with a right of way over a lane owned by Goodwood Estate.
The pretty village of East Dean can be found about 7 miles to the north of Chichester, surrounded by some of the richest countryside in the South Downs National Park and within easy reach of numerous footpaths and bridlepaths. Set around a central green with pond, the village has its own public house, village hall and parish church, whilst both the neighbouring villages of Singleton and West Dean have a primary school. The extensive facilities of Goodwood, including its country club and private members club, can be found close by, only 3½ miles to the south. Apart from providing a full horse racing calendar, Goodwood also plays host to the Festival of Speed and the September Revival meeting at its historic motor circuit. The Weald & Downland Open Air Museum at Singleton and the College at West Dean also provide facilities for various crafts, arts and courses on restoration. The cathedral city of Chichester lies some 7 miles to the south and provides an excellent range of shopping facilities within its pedestrianised centre which also includes a good choice of cafes, bistros and restaurants. Other attractions include the internationally known Chichester Festival Theatre and Pallant House Gallery which houses on of the most significant modern art collection on the South Coast. The mainline station provides a regular service to London Victoria to Chichester in about 1 hour 40 mins.
