Description

Relaxing in her conservatory, the current owner of the four-bedroom house at Hathaway Court has enjoyed nothing more than gazing out across her lovely garden from her conservatory. The garden, which she and her husband cultivated from a blank canvas, has been her pride and joy over the past two decades. “The garden was one of the main reasons they bought the house,” her son explains. “They also liked the size of the property and its extremely convenient location. At the time, my father was working in London and had to commute every day. They decided they didn’t want to live in the city, but wanted to be somewhere quieter and much more appealing like this – and it has been a wonderful family home ever since then.”

HOME AND GARDEN

It was 20 years ago that they bought the new-build property. “It was bought off-plan,” her son explains. “Even though it had not been completed, they knew it was exactly what they were looking for.” The detached house offers well-proportioned accommodation. When they bought it, it already encompassed excellent living space, as well as four bedrooms, two bathrooms and a double garage. Over the years, it has been well maintained and enhanced as necessary. It has been decorated and finished in a friendly, homely style to suit the owners’ tastes and requirements. “The main change since they first moved in has been the addition of the conservatory,” he continues. “This has been the room that my mother, in particular, has really loved. It is her favourite place to sit and relax because from here she can look out over the garden.”

FLEXIBLE LIVING

The handsome red-brick property has an abundance of kerb appeal. To the front, there is a small, established garden and an entrance with an attractive porch. At the heart of the internal accommodation, there is a central reception hall, which has access to a ground-floor cloakroom and all the main accommodation. To one side, there is a study that looks out over the front garden. This could also be an ideal children’s playroom, teenagers’ den or snug. “The accommodation downstairs is very flexible, with so much space it could suit different new owners with various lifestyle requirements and children of all ages.” Double doors from the hall give onto the dining room. Again, this could be arranged for a different purpose if need be. “My parents always used this space as the dining room,” he says. “In the past, we have had many family occasions, including Christmas dinners and other celebrations, in here.”

MODERN KITCHEN

The kitchen is a long room, with windows to the rear and side of the house. At one end, it gives onto the useful utility room, which in turn has an exterior door. With grey units and charcoal work surfaces, the kitchen has been designed to ensure food storage and preparation are easy. Everything is conveniently laid out, with the ovens built in at a raised level. There is also space for a small breakfast table. Subject to the relevant planning permissions, new owners could look into the possibility of opening this space up into the adjacent dining room if they wished to create one larger area. “The kitchen works very well as it is, however, and still has a very modern feel to it,” he adds.

AMPLE SPACE

The long sitting room is a generous space, yet also manages to be very cosy. Sliding doors from here open into the conservatory, which is ideal for anyone who enjoys hosting large family gatherings or entertaining friends. The easy access from the conservatory to the garden is perfect for summer parties and barbecues. The conservatory itself can be used as a second sitting room, a dining room or even a children’s playroom. “The conservatory is a very good size,” he observes. Upstairs, three of the bedrooms have built-in storage. Two are particularly spacious and the master bedroom has an en suite shower room. The family bathroom features a bath. “With four bedrooms, it has always been easy to accommodate overnight guests.”

HAPPY TIMES

The sunny garden has given the owners huge pleasure. When they have not been outside in their private space, they have enjoyed their proximity to parks and lakes. “This is an excellent place to live,” he says. “It is also easy to get into central Milton Keynes and to travel across the country – to places like Birmingham, as well as London.” He adds: “This has been a fantastic family home for many reasons.”

Outside

To the front of the house, there is a small garden plus a driveway providing off-road parking. This leads to a double garage. To the rear, the house opens onto an enclosed garden, with a lawn, a terrace and a range of mature plants, including some fruit trees.
