Johnshaven is a small fishing village just north of St Cyrus, from where sea fishing is available. Both St Cyrus Beach and Montrose Basin are Nature Reserves. St Cyrus has an excellent primary school, together with a post office and general store and nearby play park. More extensive range of shopping, business and leisure facilities are found in nearby towns Montrose and Laurencekirk each just 10 minutes driving time.
Secondary education is available in Montrose, or at Mearns Academy in Laurencekirk or Mackie Academy in Stonehaven. Lathallan (7 miles) is a well-known private school and on the bus route for collecting the children.
