Description

Whether your interests lie in wildlife watching, water sports or tranquil picnics by the lake, the house on Caldecotte Lane offers it all. The current owners moved to the property 10 years ago, after being impressed by the house itself and all the amenities within its proximity. “We liked the fact the area still had something of a village feel,” one of them recalls. “It was opposite the field, which gave it a beautiful outlook, and it was very close to the lake – and yet, it was in a great location for shops, supermarkets, schools, water sports and all sorts of other activities. It felt safe and private, but was well placed for accessing main roads, train stations and all the leisure facilities of Milton Keynes.” She adds: “The house itself was homely: it had the atmosphere and cosiness of a cottage, but with the modern living standards of a newer property.”

HIGH-QUALITY FINISH

Believed to date from the early 2000s, the house also held potential for upgrading. “We made changes to the front of the house, extending the driveway so there was plenty of parking space for our large family,” she explains. “We also opened up the kitchen dining room to create a much larger space. We had a new kitchen fitted and installed bi-folding doors so we could open the room right up to the garden during the summer months.” New flooring has been laid throughout the house; bathrooms and utility room fittings were replaced and the whole house has been refreshed. “We recently had the rooms professionally redecorated in neutral Egyptian cotton and hessian shades,” she continues. “There is now a high-quality finish throughout.”

EASY LIVING

The property, which is set back from the road by its substantial driveway, is entered from the front via a reception hall leading to all the main living space. There is also access to the garage. The sitting room is an elegant space with a bay window to the front. “This is where my husband likes to sit and watch television in the evening,” she says. The stylish kitchen is cleverly arranged with plenty of food storage and preparation space. There is a breakfast bar for quick snacks and light meals, as well as ample room for a dining table and chairs. “I like to spend most of my time in here – it is a lovely, social area. We often have friends and family round and it is nice to pull the doors to the garden back on fine days, so people can come in and out.”

GLORIOUS VIEWS

All four bedrooms are on the first floor of the house. The standout space here is the impressive master suite, which has a bay window and chic en suite shower room. Here, the owners wake up every morning to glorious views and can keep an eye out for wildlife. “We look directly out over the field – it really is very beautiful,” she admits. The smallest bedroom has bespoke fitted wardrobes and is currently used as a dressing room. Guests staying in the remaining two bedrooms have access to the family bathroom. “This house has been the perfect size for us,” she agrees. “The layout and space have been ideal.”

BRIGHT IDEAS

Now sadly having to relocate for reasons of work, the owners believe the house may still hold great potential for further enhancement for those who come after them. “We did have planning permission to extend the utility room towards the back of the house,” she explains. “We were thinking about having a conservatory or garden room there. We have also looked into extending up into the attic space. This is something other houses close to us have done. Subject to the relevant planning permissions, there could be room up there for an additional bedroom, perhaps.” She adds: “Other people living close by have also converted their garages into family rooms or work spaces, which could suit those living here next.”

CLOSE TO NATURE

In addition to the comfort of the house, the friendly neighbourhood and the convenient location, she says she will miss the semi-rural feel of the setting. “We are very sad to be leaving this place – we thought we would be here forever,” she says. “We love the sense of being close to nature. It takes us just three minutes to get to the lake, where you can walk, watch the wildlife or attend an event. This is a very special place to live and our house has really been a truly lovely home.”

Outside

To the front of the house, the driveway provides ample off-road parking. There is also access to the integral garage. To the rear, the house opens easily onto its enclosed garden, with its terrace, lawn and seating areas.
